Second Year of Monitoring
~
Following the cold winter, this second year of monitoring the Dormouse activity, has seen an increase in Dormice numbers. Howardian LNR now has it's own licence holders who, with registered assistants, form the Dormouse Survey Team. Nest Tubes have been removed and extra boxes placed on the reserve to bring the total up to fifty-two. Existing boxes were cleaned in February when a hibernating Dormouse was found, photograph below.

Box Surveys
~
Fifty-two boxes were surveyed between May and November, seven surveys in all, they were checked once a month, contents recorded and registered with The County Ecologist, SeWBREC, NRW and NDMP. Early in the season Blue and Great Tits had nested in 21, 40% of the boxes, in August six boxes contained roosting Orange Underwing Moths later some were found with Woodmice in residence. Dormice activity was found in all fifteen nest box areas around the reserve.
